Camille LeBlanc

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Camille LeBlanc, 100, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Formerly of Dieppe, he passed away peacefully at the Moncton Veterans’ Health Centre, surrounded by his loving family.

Camille was born in Moncton, NB, on September 20, 1922. He was the son of the late Thomas and Delina (Melanson) LeBlanc.

One of his greatest passions in life was sports. Camille always enjoyed his roundtable discussions with friends about his favorite hockey team, the Montreal Canadians. In the late 40s-early 50s, he played hockey as a goaltender with the Sackville Eagles and the Dieppe Goats. In 2007, the Dieppe Goats team was inducted into the Dieppe Sports Hall of Fame.

But his true passion was music. An avid trombone and classical violin player, Camille never missed an opportunity to entertain. He played the trombone in many local bands, most notably the Riverview Causeway Connection and the Sackville Citizens Band.

Camille had a long military career. During WWII, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943-1946, and a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1954-1972. Prior to enlisting in the Air Force, he worked for CN Rail, and following his military career, he worked for the Federal Public Service of Canada until his retirement.

While living in Dieppe, Camille was a member of the Dieppe Military Veterans’ Association, as well as a member of the Dieppe Industrial Park Board, from 1990-1996.

Camille spent his life being a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather, and was always there to lend a helping hand. He will be sadly missed by his two children, Camilla Flannery (Patrick) and Michel (Rose May Gallant); his grandchildren, Aron and Ryan; his great-grandchildren, Austin, Aiden, and Abrielle; extended family members Josh and Jacob; and one sister, Gérène Barrette of Windsor, ON. He was known by many and loved by all.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rita Bourque; five sisters, Marguerite, Alvina, Émilienne (Millie), Eva, and Jeannette; and two brothers, Raymond and René.

The family would like to give special thanks to the excellent staff of the Veterans’ Health Centre for their compassion and loving care given to Camille.

Remains are to be cremated for burial at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in Dieppe, at a later date. As per Camille’s personal request, there will be no public funeral services. Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (506-858-1900).

My condolences to Camille's family. As a 25 year member of the Dieppe Military Veterans Association; is my connection to Camille. Having picked him up for several years when he could no longer drive to our meetings at DMVA. He was a very nice man and pleasant to chat with.
