He served as a Radioman in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1951 to 1982, including time in the British Submarine Service and the Canadian Submarine Service... He served onboard five British submarines and one Canadian submarine. He also served as Operations Chief at Naval Radio Station CFH located at Mill Cove, Nova Scotia.
