A couple of months ago Jack Anderson was in touch with you concerning a radio set which had been part of the Department of Northern Saskatchewan radio network which had been managed by the late Ron Hook of Prince Albert. Sadly Jack passed away a few weeks ago and I am unable to confirm the details of his conversation but I had noted the name “Michelle”. In any event, Jack told me you were interested in the set for the Museum. The owners of the set will be travelling from Winnipeg to Saskatchewan on May 11 and have asked where they might deliver the set. Could you let me know? Many thanks John Gilbert May 8, 2012
Hello John: I am very sorry to hear about Jack, he sounded like a nice man. Yes we were interested in the radio set, you can send it to the address below. Someone will be at the museum the week of the 14th so it can be dropped off then. The owners will have to stop in and sign a donation form, but other than that it won't take to long. Thank you for getting back to me. Michelle Taylor Curator Prince Albert Historical Museum May 8, 2012
Thanks for the reply Michelle. I should have been in touch some time ago. Jack Anderson and I went to Radio College together in 1959 and remained good friends. It is sad to hear that we have lost him. The person who has the set is Charles Feaver. He and his wife are leaving Winnipeg for Saskatchewan on Friday May 11 but I am not sure when they can be in Prince Albert so I have asked him to contact you directly.
One small favour. The contribution of the late Ron Hook to telecommunications was recognized a few years ago by the Canadian Telecommunications Hall of Fame. Would it be possible to get a photo of the set being delivered to you? I have some background material on Ron Hook which I can send you and would like to have the photo to add to the file. That sounds great John! I can get a picture taken, not a problem! The information on Ron Hook would be very informative for us to have. Thank you very much Michelle Taylor Curator Prince Albert Historical Museum May 9, 2012
Hi Michelle: I was pleased to hear the transfer of the set from Charles Feaver went as planned. I have found a rough draft I did back in 2007 about Ron Hook. I think this was edited by the Hall of Fame people and may have been used in the Hall of Fame brochure. It is still very rough but you might be able to extract parts of it to show with the set. Best regards John Gilbert. June 4, 2012
Hi Michelle: So pleased to get the photos. Many thanks. It gives me a good reason to get back in touch with my old friend Charles Feaver. I am glad the radio set has found a good home. Museums like yours are an important repository for the history of radio-communications and for reminding us of people like Ron Hook who made it all happen. I would like to post it to our radiocommunications web site, with credit to you and the Museum. I have copied this to the Radiocommunications.ca webmaster Best Regards John Gilbert November 6, 2013
