An employee of the Department will be volunteering his time to promote
safety, reliability and quality in many everyday products and services.
John Gilbert, Director General of Government
Telecommunications, has been appointed a member of the Standards Council of
Canada.
The Standards Council defines minimum requirements for and promotes voluntary
standardization of products and services intended for Canadian and foreign
markets.
The Standards Council of Canada has approximately 50 members, and
Gilbert is one of six federal government representatives.
"I have a great interest in standardization," says Gilbert.
"This area is critical to the Department of Communications and to Canada.
It's important to be involved."
"It is an honour to be appointed to the Council," says Pierre Charland,
spokesman for the Council. "Mr. Gilbert has been chosen
because he is recognized as a leader in the communications field."
John
Gilbert
has worked with the Department since 1969. He
has held directorships in many areas including Multilateral
(Telecommunications), Central Region, and Industry Structure and Services.
John
Gilbert was appointed to the Council in June 1988 for
a three-year term.

gouvernementales, a été nommé membre du Conseil canadien des normes. Le Conseil
détermine les exigences minimum en matière de normalisation et encourage la
normalisation, sur une base facultative, de produits et de services destinés aux
marchés canadien et étrangers.
Le Conseil se compose d'environ 50 membres, et John
Gilbert est l'un des six représentants du gouvernement fédéral.

John
Gilbert travaille au Ministère depuis 1969. Il a occupé
bon nombre de postes de direction, notamment aux Télécommunications
multilatérales, dans la région du Centre et à l'Organisation et services
industriels.
John
Gilbert a été nommé au Conseil en juin 1988 pour une
période de trois ans.
