1974
New District Offices in Yellowknife and
Windsor
The
Department of Communications has opened a second office in the
Northwest Territories to serve the expanding communication needs of Canada's
north.
The
new office, opened in Yellowknife
November 1, 1974 joins an existing departmental facility in Fort
Smith, N. W. T., and is managed by Ian Macdonald
supported by three radio inspectors
and other staff.
Len Hooper has been
named as the new District Manager in
Fort Smith.
Ian Macdonald (in the photo on
the left) served as District
Manager in Fort Smith from 1972 when the
department's office opened there. He
began his career in 1953 as a radio operator with the then Department of
Transport in Graham, Ontario.
 After serving as officer-in-charge of DOT aeradio stations at Ennadai Lake and Coral Harbour, N. W. T., and Lynn Lake, Manitoba, he moved to Regina as a radio inspector, in 1959.
He joined the regional office in Winnipeg in
1967, first in authorization and later in enforcement.
The
Department has also opened a new
District Office in Windsor,
Ontario.
It will provide service to
Windsor, Chatham and the counties of Essex
and Kent.
Stanley (Stan) Ribee (in the photo on the right),
formerly with the Toronto District
Office has been appointed District Manager,
and he has a supporting staff of three Radio Inspectors.

Le Ministère vient d'ouvrir un
bureau à Yellowknife,
afin
de
répondre
plus
efficacement au
besoin
croissant de
télécommunications dans le Nord
canadien.
Le
personnel
comprend
le
chef, Ian
Macdonald,
trois inspecteurs et
quelques autres employés.
Le nouveau bureau a
ouvert ses
portes le

service

de Fort Smith.

Ian

son bureau en 1972. Il
a
commencé sa vie
professionnelle
comme opérateur
radio
pour
le ministère
des Transports, à Graham
(Ontario).
Après avoir travaillé comme
chef des
stations radioaéronautiques du ministère
des
Transports de
Ennadai Lake (T.N.-O.), Coral Harbour (T.N.-O.) et Lynn Lake (Manitoba), M. Macdonald
fut muté,
en
1959, à
Regina avec
le titre
d'inspecteur
radio.
Il fut
ensuite nommé au
bureau
régional de Winnipeg
en 1967 où
il
passa quelque
temps au
Service
des
autorisations et à la
section de
l'application des règlements.
Le Ministère a
aussi ouvert un
bureau à Windsor, Ontario.
Ce
bureau
desservira les villes
de
Windsor et de
Chatham et
les comtés d'Essex
et de
Kent qui
faisaient partie du territoire
du
bureau de district de London.
Stanley Ribee (sur la photo à droite),
qui travaillait
auparavant
au
bureau de district de
Toronto, a
été nommé gérant
du bureau
de Windsor et
il
sera
aidé dans
ses fonctions
par
trois inspecteurs.
