Spring move planned for DOC
It looks as though a long-awaited move
for departmental headquarters
will take place in early 1975.
Although formal approval had not
been granted by Treasury Board when
60 Days went to press, plans are now in the works to
relocate in the Journal North building all staff now located in the
Berger,
Empire, Palef, Lester
B.
Pearson and Journal South buildings. The Journal North building is at the
corner of Kent and Slater streets. Target
date for the move is late March
1975.
DOC will occupy 13 of the 20 floors in the new building, floors 8-20,
while the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce will have six. The
ground
floor is reserved for commercial purposes.
A planning committee, set up in
early October with representatives
from DOC and the Department of
Public Works, has held weekly meetings under the chairmanship of R. E.
Doyle of the Personnel, Finance and
Administration Branch.
The committee has drawn up floor
plans to meet the needs defined by
the various branches of the department.
These plans are now under consideration
by senior management.
Planning is continuing and problems scheduled for attention by the
committee include parking and storage,
and finding space to accommodate
the physical fitness program.

Oui, c'est bien
vrai : on déménage!
Les
services de l'Administration centrale du ministère des
Communications seront probablement regroupés dans l'édifice Journal Nord,
situé au coin des rues
Kent
et Slater à
Ottawa.
L'exiguïté des lieux dans l'édifice Berger et la dispersion de
plusieurs des services administratifs du Ministère dans cinq endroits
différents de la ville ont rendu nécessaire ce déménagement. Toutefois,
il est à noter qu'au moment où Jour
60 allait sous presse, le Conseil du trésor n'avait pas encore
approuvé officiellement ce déménagement.
Le ministère
des Communications occupera treize des vingt étages du nouvel édifice et
le ministère de l'Industrie et du Commerce six étages. Le rez-de-chaussée
a été réservé à des fins commerciales.
À l'heure
actuelle, le comité spécial responsable du déménagement,
formé
de représentants des ministères des Communications et des Travaux publics,
s'est réuni plusieurs fois sous la présidence de monsieur R. E. Doyle et a
déjà soumis les plans d'aménagement des nouveaux bureaux en fonction des
besoins établis par les diverses directions.
Plusieurs solutions restent
encore à trouver aux nombreux problèmes soulevés par ce déménagement dans
le nouvel édifice.
Prochainement, le comité s'attaquera, entre autres
choses, aux problèmes de l'espace réservé au conditionnement physique des
employés, du stationnement et de l'entreposage.
