Dennis Lanthier

Started in 1974 - Retired in 2009

Came back for 2010 Winter Olympics

Graduated from BCIT - Electronics Technology Program - Telecommunications Option, in late May 1974.

  • Went straight into the DOC on June 3, 1974, just a few days after my last exam at BCIT.

  •

  • Served as a Radio Inspector in the Vancouver District Office of the DOC from June 1974 until early 1982 when I won a competition to go into the Pacific Regional Engineering group.

  •

  • Did Microwave Radio Licensing from about 1984 until I was asked to become the Pacific Region SMS Coordinator in 1993.

  •

  • In 1993, the Pacific Region decided to de-centralize Microwave licensing to our District Offices, so I was also tasked with training District staff, and handling the administrative issues associated with the de-centralization.

  •

  • Served as the Pacific Region SMS Coordinator from 1993 until my retirement in June 2009, and again during my period as a Casual from July 2009 until April 1, 2010 when the 2010 Winter Olympic Games were over.

Message from Dennis

My years served:  1974 to 2009 (full 35 years).

I served in the Vancouver District Office from 1974 to 1982, and then in the Pacific Regional Office in Vancouver from 1982 to 2009.

I retired in June 2009, but went back right way as a Casual for the 2010 Olympics. I "re-retired" on April 1, 2010.

I am currently living in Mission, British Columbia. I've been married to my wife Heather for 32 years (as of May 12, 2011), and we have 2 children, Kevin age 30 and Aimee age 27 (ages as of November 2011). We have a son-in-law (Ryan) and they are expecting our first grandchild in June 2012.

Heather is retired from Telus, and we have a home in Mission, BC. During the winter, we like to RV in Arizona, California and Nevada. In Spring and Fall, we usually take our 5th wheel and boat to Sheridan Lake (near Lone Butte, BC) to go fishing. Retired life is indeed, very good

I have to say, that I really enjoyed my career, and never once regretted accepting the job offer from the DOC way back in 1974.
