Meet Bill Klymochko, Regional Engineer, Spectrum Management, Winnipeg
By Erin Nuytten

Bill Klymochko

and his Yamaha 750cc motorcycle.

Bill Klymochko has had a plethora of jobs in his career. He has worked for Manitoba Telephone System, Bristol Aerospace (where he was actually a rocket scientist!), Burroughs Business Machines, Air Canada, Canadian National Railway, The Winnipeg Free Press, Salisbury House, and the Government of Canada, on two occasions - as a Radio Inspector from 1975-77, and his current position as a Regional Engineer since 1984. But, true to his nature, Bill has a yearning for knowledge and has worked also as a Broadcast Engineer, Acting Director of Engineering and Acting Regional Manager of the Community Access Program (CAP).

Bill’s general duties include Spectrum Band Planning (the planning of what and how Spectrum will be used in Canada) and microwave licensing. He is currently involved in two working groups: one which is undertaking licensing fee review, where the group compares Canada’s radio license fee with those of other countries; and another which is working to improve the coordination agreement Industry Canada has with the U.S. for radio licensing.

Bill’s direct clients are the Spectrum district offices across the region, and in headquarters. One of the main functions of P&NR Regional Operations for Spectrum is to act as liaison between these two groups to ensure the needs of both are met. The best part of Bill’s job, in his opinion, is the “variety in the stuff I do...my Director is always giving me the ‘weird and wonderful’ to tackle.”

Bill enjoys spending his time outside the office with his wife of 23 years and their three children. He is very active in his church, where he plays drums and bass at Sunday Service. At present, he claims to have only two hobbies - stocks and his Yamaha 750cc motorcycle.
