DEWAR, Donald

After 97 years of very active living, Don passed away just after his 98th birthday. He was born in Ontario but raised on a farm near Hazlet, Sask. He taught school for four years then joined the airforce and was attached to the R.A.F. from 1941-1945.

He returned to UBC and got his degree in electrical engineering.

He then joined Transport Canada and worked his way up to the Regional Director of Air Services for western Canada and the Northwest Territories. He was instrumental in planning the Calgary Airport.

On retirement he volunteered to go to Sri Lanka to help them with their Air Services. Don's hobbies included woodworking, golf, bridge and travel.

After nearly 66 years of marriage he leaves to mourn his loving wife Betty who was steadfast in her devotion to him during his final illness. He leaves daughter Diane (Dr. Dave Grabke) and son Dr. Bill Dewar (Trish). He also leaves six grandchildren of whom he took such an interest in Lisa, Mark, Jennifer, Christie, Jill and Doug. Also left behind are the eight great- grandchildren who delighted him so much. Thanks go to Tami Guest, Dr. Armstrong and the Norwood and Laurier House care centres. He says his goodbyes to his friends at Canterbury Manor. A private service will be held later.
