Obituary

George Ronald (Ron) Begley

1933 - 2011

George Ronald (Ron) Begley, of Ottawa ON, died peacefully at age 78 on November 10, 2011, at the Ottawa General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Smith Falls, ON, on October 3, 1933, to Laura and George Begley, Ron received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from McGill University in 1956. He had a long and successful career, culminating in a distinguished tenure in the federal public service as a Director General for the Department of Communications, and later Industry Canada.

Ron was the beloved husband of Joan Begley (nee Gravel). They were married in 1958, and shared 53 extraordinary years together. He will be greatly missed by his children, David (Lori) of Oshawa ON, Terry (Catherine) of Caledon East ON, Judith (Johanne) of Moncton NB, and Christopher (Kimberley) of Orleans ON, as well as his grandchildren, Nicholas, Tyler, Matthew and Lindsay. Ron will also be missed by his extended family, and countless friends, including the Cumberland Lion's Club and the Blackburn breakfast group. He was predeceased by his sister, June Langley (nee Begley).

Ron had an extraordinary spirit, and love of life and laughter. He was a man of enormous strength, humour and dedication. He enjoyed good times with his family and friends, and traveling the world. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Loree Boyle and her team at the Ottawa General Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion.
